Solai Nyakinyua Primary School - Solai Coffee Partnership, Your Support In Action

Solai Nyakinyua Primary School, established in 2008, continues to be a beacon of education in Solai, Nakuru, Kenya. Despite challenges such as the devastating 2018 Solai Dam tragedy, which deeply affected the community, the school remains a vital resource for its 763 students—374 boys and 352 girls—across grades 1 to 8.

Thanks to your incredible support, together we raised $3167.02 in our recently completed campaign to uplift the school, achieving meaningful progress.

What We Accomplished Together

Technology for Learning

  • Two desktop computers, one projector, a laptop, and a printer.

Health & Dignity Initiative

  • Undergarments for all students.
  • Sanitary towels to support girls throughout 2024.

Essential Educational Materials

  • Pens and pencils for every student.
  • School bags for top performers, most disciplined students, and sports champions.
  • Staff diaries and pens to assist with better organization.

The joy and gratitude on the faces of students and staff during the distribution of these resources were truly humbling. As the school’s headteacher, Mr. Kinyanjui, shared:

"When Solai Coffee and their partners arrived, it was like a ray of hope shining through the darkness. Their generosity has not only provided us with essential resources but has also reignited the dreams of our students."

This achievement would not have been possible without your unwavering support.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to ACTS OF Wisdom for their generous contributions to our campaign for Solai Nyakinyua Primary School. Your support played a critical role in bringing hope and resources to the students and staff.

A special thank you to Pablo Schneider for stepping in and helping us bridge the gap during this campaign. Your dedication to this cause ensured its success and amplified the impact on the lives of these children.

Together, we are not just addressing immediate needs but also empowering these young minds with hope and possibility for a brighter future.

Stay connected with us  as we are still running this initiatives as we continue to support Solai Nyakinyua Primary School and other communities through your support and our shared commitment to making a difference.

Recent Community Impact (2025/2026)

Back-to-School Drive (2025)

In 2025, Solai Coffee teamed up with Clean and Classy Barbershop and the Give Back organization to support students at Solai Nyakinyua Primary School. We organized a back-to-school supply drive that gathered books, crayons, and other essential stationery. The supplies were given directly to the students to support their learning.

Christmas Toy Drive

During Christmas, our partners led a successful toy drive. Nearly six boxes of toys, each about 50 lbs, were donated to children in Solai Nyakinyua. The gifts were not delivered on Christmas, but arrived in person this year. The children were incredibly excited to receive them, reminding us that the spirit of giving goes far beyond a single day.

Acts of Wisdom Visit – March 2026

In early March,  Acts of Wisdom returned to Kenya for a week-long visit to our family farm and Solai Nyakinyua Primary School. The delegation included seven guests from Houston, Texas, and Ethiopia.

Impact highlights:
  • Sponsored school window repairs
  • Funded restoration of classroom desks
  • Participated in our monthly community support program , partially supported by Clean and Classy / Give Back.
  • Visitors toured Liwani Farms to learn about our coffee farming and community work
  • Planted a tree at the farm as a lasting symbol of connection, growth, and partnership

The guests also visited Sharon and Jane, students whose education continues to be supported through our partners.

  • Acts of Wisdom continues sponsoring Jane’s education.
  • Peter Kuria (Solai Coffee) continues sponsoring Sharon’s studies.

During a visit to a school for hearing-impaired students, the group discovered students producing beautiful crafts. Acts of Wisdom is now exploring ways to bring these crafts to the U.S. to raise funds for the students and their programs.

Students welcomed the group with dancing and celebration, reflecting the deep connection between our partners and the community.

Every cup of Solai Coffee helps create real, measurable change, from improving classrooms to supporting student programs. Through our partnerships and community-driven initiatives, we are building long-term opportunities for families in Solai, Kenya.

Ongoing Community Impact

Our impact continues to grow through community support and customer participation.

2025/2026
Education Support Improvements

We’ve also made meaningful improvements to the school’s learning environment. The introduction of Wi-Fi access has empowered teachers with better tools, improved access to educational resources, and enhanced the overall learning experience for students.

2025/2026

Monthly Birthday Program

We host monthly birthday celebrations for children at Solai Nyakinyua Primary School, with an average budget of $350–$450 per month. These gatherings create moments of joy and belonging for students who might not otherwise experience such celebrations.

These initiatives are supported through:

  • Direct online donations
  • Tips from our mobile coffee cart
  • Purchases made on our website
  • Sales of Valley Bloom Kenya Farmers Blend Coffee, where every dollar contributes to student support
2024/2025
Support Dada

1 in 10 girls miss school because of menstruating. This is our initiative that ensures that no girl misses out on school because they cannot afford feminine hygiene products

Mental Health Corner

We have noticed that many young men in our community are succumbing to alcoholism due to lack of opportunities. Through experts, we are offering classes on how to handle depression, gain barista skills as well as make a profitable living through farming

2024

Non Profit Organization

Establish a non-profit foundation dedicated to community initiatives, utilizing structured and systematic approaches to achieve our goals. Through strategic fundraising efforts, we will secure the necessary capital to support our mission and make a meaningful impact within the community. This foundation will serve as a vehicle for organizing and implementing initiatives that address key needs and foster sustainable development, ensuring our efforts are impactful and enduring.

2022
Coffee Expo

Expos, trade shows, and sponsorship events like 1Million Cups Orlando have been pivotal in the journey of Solai Coffee. These events provide essential exposure, allowing us to share our story as advocates for small-scale farmers. Building relationships is fundamental in the coffee industry, and we dedicate 80% of our efforts to developing these connections. Although attending such events can be costly, they offer invaluable opportunities to engage with global producers and consumers, fostering innovation and ideologies that drive the next level of our business and impact.

2021
Boots on the Ground Tours

Boots on the Ground tours at Solai Farms began in 2021, aiming to conduct at least one origin trip per year. These tours inspire our farmers, showing them that their hard work is valued globally. Visitors' presence boosts their motivation and hope for better opportunities. Eventually, we plan to expand into farm tourism, with all proceeds supporting our community initiatives. We appreciate our guests for affirming our resilience, determination, and vision to remain a key player in the global coffee industry.

2019/2021
Community Wet Pulping Station

In 2020, we launched a transformative project to install a wet pulping station at Liwani Estate, aiming to create efficiency and reduce post-harvest losses. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to investing in technology to enhance sustainability and minimize waste. The station is open for community use, empowering local farmers to improve their coffee quality and streamline their processes. By providing access to advanced processing facilities, Solai Coffee is making a significant impact on the livelihoods of farmers, fostering growth, and promoting sustainable practices.
