As we enter the fall, we all can't help but think of THE coffee thrill of a freshly brewed pumpkin spice latte. Coffee giant Starbucks, the founder of this iconic beverage, was desperate to replicate the success of the Winter's Peppermint Mocha.

As we say happy 20th birthday to a seasonal great, Solai Coffee is excited to remind us what makes a drink unique and equip us with skills for a homemade brew.

Amazing deals for exceptional people! Get your coffee beans from Solai Coffee for your best coffee experience!

Why is it called pumpkin spice Latte?

Originally pumpkin pie spice, it is a blend of ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and an occasional sprinkle of allspice. So, the famous pumpkin spice has no pumpkin flavor in it! — Still, it's used to flavor a pumpkin pie, which is how it earned its brand name.

Why is Pumpkin Spice Latte So Special?

For young coffee drinkers, experience is king. So, is pumpkin spice any special? Absolutely! The Pumpkin spice flavor is a fan top favorite, with sales a glaring contrast to the chill season it celebrates. Lovers of iced and cold brews also can't wait to order the Latte when fall dawns.

Professional brewers from Starbucks looked to identify what spices best complimented an espresso. Baristas "in the Liquid Lab," sipped espresso shots with pumpkin pie bites to find the sweet spot, and the results were terrific.

In a taste test, the pumpkin spiced coffee emerged as a clear favorite, beating out caramel and chocolate options for its uniqueness and flavor. However, the iconic drink is evolving, and since 2015, the pumpkin sauce now comes with pumpkin puree, a product of kabocha pumpkins.
